EnergyX Unveils Major Lithium Project in Ark-La-Tex Region

By: Ark-La-Tex Staff Writer

Energy Exploration Technologies Inc. (EnergyX) has announced plans to establish a significant lithium extraction facility, dubbed "Project Lonestar Lithium," in the Ark-La-Tex region, encompassing parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. This initiative aims to bolster the domestic lithium supply chain, crucial for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and renewable energy storage.

Project Overview
Project Lonestar Lithium is set to commence with an initial production capacity of 5,000 tons of lithium per year, with aspirations to scale up to 25,000 tons annually in its second phase. For context, the largest active lithium plant in the U.S. currently produces 5,000 tons per year, highlighting the ambitious nature of EnergyX's endeavor.

The project is strategically located in the Smackover Formation, a geologic area rich in lithium-bearing brines. EnergyX plans to utilize its proprietary LiTAS™ Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, designed to enhance efficiency and sustainability in lithium production.

Economic and Community Impact
EnergyX projects that Project Lonestar will inject over $100 million into the local economy, creating approximately 200 full-time jobs with an average salary of $85,000. Additionally, the company has pledged $20 million in direct community and educational benefits to support regional development.

Strategic Partnerships and Funding
The project has garnered support from major industry players. General Motors led a $50 million Series B financing round in EnergyX, securing rights to portions of the company's lithium production. South Korean conglomerate POSCO is also among the strategic investors.

EnergyX has partnered with engineering firm Kiewit for the initial front-end engineering plans of Project Lonestar, aiming to enhance the scalability and efficiency of its DLE technologies.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
Domestic Supply Chain Enhancement: The project aims to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign lithium sources, strengthening national energy security.
Economic Growth: Significant job creation and community investments are expected to stimulate the regional economy.
Environmental Considerations: The use of DLE technology may offer a more sustainable alternative to traditional lithium extraction methods.

Cons:
Technological Uncertainty: While promising, EnergyX's DLE technology has yet to be proven at a commercial scale, leading to skepticism among some industry experts.
Environmental Concerns: Despite advancements, lithium extraction can pose environmental risks, including water usage and potential contamination, which may impact local ecosystems.

Looking Ahead
EnergyX's Project Lonestar represents a significant step toward bolstering the U.S. lithium supply chain and supporting the transition to renewable energy. As the project progresses, its success will depend on technological validation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
